![]() My Aunt Laurie and cousin Jackson arrived on the island from North Carolina right before dinner and our whole group headed out to The Lazy Flamingo, a casual, local seafood restaurant. I lost the big race at the end because I basically choked on water from laughing so hard at Ryan and Ross trying to get to the other side of the pool without losing their noodles. It’s much harder than you’d think and watching people try to swim while keeping a noodle underwater is pretty darn hilarious. The best made-up game was the one-legged noodle race, in which you had to keep a pool noodle submerged with one leg and swim to the other side of the pool as fast as you could, while the noodle remained under water. Our pool time was one of the highlights of my day, as we made up some stellar pool games. We spent the majority of the afternoon on the beach, before swimming in the pool (the ocean is too cold) and showering before dinner. Today was such a fun day! From the moment Ryan and my sister’s boyfriend Ross arrived around 11 a.m., we were out and about, making the most of our time in Sanibel. While I didn't get to sample much of the menu, the atmosphere, pitchers of beer and conch fritters are reason enough for me.You know you’ve had a good day when it ends on this note. I'd definitely recommend hitting up the Lazy Flamingo if you're spending time on Sanibel. That's a master carving job if I ever saw one! The service here was prompt, waitresses were friendly and the Halloween decor was plentiful. All wings were served with celery and blue cheese, of course. We ordered your standard Buffalo Wings, as well as Chinese style sweet and tart Teriyaki Wings, and my favorite the Teri-Hots. The table shared 3 baskets of wings, all $8.99 a pop. A generous portion, these bad boys were served warm with a golden brown crispy fried shell, inside a bite of sofy chewy bread laced with tangy conch, carrots and celery. While we watched Football and cheered on our boys I snacked on Conch Fritters ($6.99) (pronounced KONK!) just like hush puppies but they're full of queen conch, diced vegetables and served with a side of hot sauce. Pitchers ran about $9 on average, which is not a bad deal. We started off with locally brewed Key West Ale and later moved onto our beloved Yuengling. Tricia, Dave and myself shared a couple pitchers of beer. Inside, large porthole windows are surrounded by dark wooden walls and ceilings flanked with metal clapboards, heavy nautical rope, tropical themed beer advertisements and marine life accents. Walkways lined with plastic flamingos and nautical ropes guide you inside to a space reminiscent of the lower decks of a ship. Surrounded by large green shrubs and trees, the establishment is set back from the street but you can't miss the bright pastel pink exterior with ocean blue trim. owns three restaurants, two of them on Sanibel island, one just down the street from our condo located at 1036 Periwinkle Way. Casual seafood dining at this nautical themed restaurant and bar gives you a true taste of local island eats and atmosphere. Last Sunday afternoon we ventured out to watch the Patriots game at the Lazy Flamingo. ![]()
